Dr. Ubon Udoh is a globally recognized expert in Philanthropic Organizational Reforms, International Development, Youth Development, Academics, and Governance.
He’s currently the MD/CEO of ASR Africa Initiative, a brainchild of industrialist and Philanthropist, Abdul Samad Rabiu CFR, CON, the founder and executive chairman of BUA Group, set up with an annual pledge of $100,000,000 (USD), which is the largest private philanthropic giving of its kind by an individual in Africa.
Dr. Ubon Udoh is also the founder of Hotcoal Basketball, a leading Nigerian Basketball club with over 15 trophies under its belt in the last 30 months alone.

Dr. Ubon Udoh is a visionary leader in philanthropy and international development, currently serving as the MD/CEO of ASR Africa Initiative, overseeing a $100 million USD annual philanthropic commitment. His work funds critical healthcare, education, and development projects across Africa, transforming communities and impacting lives.
Through his work at cornerstone foundation as a director and co-founder, he has coordinated interventions in Jos plateau state which include support for over 300 widows, adopted 4 orphanages through the “adopt an orphanage programme” , intervened for victims of flood disasters and other forcibly displaced groups, provided support for over 100 people with disabilities, and sponsored 150 young men and women to learn vocational skills. He has also supported and initiated the sports for peace interventions reaching over 5000 youths directly and indirectly, which have run for 15 years in football and basketball in direct response to the spate of communal clashes and violent conflict in the state.
Professionally, Dr. Ubon has worked in several international agencies including the German Development Commission (GIZ), the World Bank, UN Women peace and security project, and led the Monitoring and Evaluation knowledge management and learning of the North East Development Commission – North East Reconstruction and Stability Programme in Northern Nigeria ( including the World Bank Multi -sectoral Crisis Recovery project). This included M and E responsibility for over 1 billion dollars in grants and loans from multiple MDBs and development agencies for the reconstruction of North East Nigeria from the ravages of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Youth Development & Hotcoal basketball
Dr. Ubon Udoh’s passion for youth development is exemplified by his founding of Hotcoal Basketball, one of Nigeria’s most successful basketball clubs.
Over the past 30 months hotcoal basketball has amassed over 25 trophies (19 first pace championships and 6 second place finishes) in all competitions. The programme has also renovated and built afresh 7 basketball courts across Nigeria and empowered over 500 youths directly as past of the hotcoal basketball youth empowerment scheme where young players are given academic and other scholarships and groomed to be part of the larger basketball picture where opportunities for economic empowerment through sports exist.
Two of the members of the record-setting Nigerian female basketball team from the just concluded Olympics are past members of the programme and 6 of the players on the Nigerian under 18 silver medal-winning team from the just concluded under 18 African basketball championship in South Africa were also past members of the Hotcoal basketball programme. Several alumni of the programme are on scholarships in Europe, Asia, and the USA. The Hotcoal Basketball programme hosts monthly tournaments in 8 states across Nigeria. This includes a gender-focused programme in Maiduguri, Borno state working with girls schools and encouraging the building of self-esteem and confidence through sports, and a mental health intervention for conflict victims and conflict orphans using basketball as a platform for trauma healing and counseling.
